Goals
We have two goals for the next three to five years:
- Maintain our competitive advantage in our current markets.
- Grow new markets.
Our company is aggressively pursuing new markets generally in the areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Large Scale Traffic Engineering Regional Planning, and Specialty Surveying Clients.
In the last seven years our company has gone from a minor consulting firm to an engineering company that aggressively competes with much larger firms for major regional projects in Eastern Iowa . Our expertise in specialty engineering disciplines has given us the contacts that we leveraged into major clients through our dedication to on-time delivery of quality services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Hours
Our typical work week is 40 hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. , with one hour for lunch.
We traditionally operate "summer hours" from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. Summer hours begin on Memorial Day and end on Labor Day.
Overtime
We do not require, or spend, a lot of overtime. Occasionally, staff may have to spend some extra time to complete a project. However, our emphasis is on our people and we try to manage our teams to minimize time spent on evenings and weekends. To achieve that, we expect staff to work hard while they are here, so the whole team can succeed, on-time.
Office Attire
General dress in the office is business casual. However, for meetings with clients we prefer to match the client's preference of attire.

There is an 18-hole municipal golf course, with a convenient driving range, across the street from our office. We are also located about 3 minutes from a gun club with trap, archery, and rifle/pistol ranges. There are numerous restaurants, three gyms, two shopping malls and numerous other stores within 10 minutes.
Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer
We are an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer. We have staff ranging in age from 20 years old to over 60 years old, and our personnel turnover is typically very low.
Team Building , Interests, and Hobbies
Our company has two major sponsored social events each year; the annual Holiday Party, and a summer event (usually a golf outing). We also have a monthly company meeting (usually over lunch) to discuss Company progress, work issues, planning of the Company social events and, occasionally, a speaker on various subjects from technical to self-help.
Our staff has many hobbies and interests such as sports, golf, scuba diving, hunting, rock collecting, antique cars, archery, fishing, rock climbing, wine tasting, and numerous others.
We encourage staff to be involved socially outside of work through civic organizations, service clubs, and luncheon clubs, as we feel community involvement builds well rounded character.
CAREER TRACK
Job Training
New employees receive extensive, on-the-job training. Our training program is aimed at growing the professional development of the team member. The training program has three goals:
- Prepare and develop for professional licensure.
- Prepare and develop technical abilities towards the specialty area best suited for the candidate.
- Prepare and develop interpersonal skills, management ability, client contacts, public contact, and other "soft skills" so the candidate can realize their fullest potential in private side engineering.
We view training as an ongoing process throughout a person's career. The engineering profession is not static, and new business opportunities arise frequently.
In the first year, the new person will experience many different tasks in several fields. Most of the work will be concentrated in the person's general field of expertise. However, it is important that new graduate sees what other team members' responsibilities, duties, and work are like.
The first year will consist of learning our systems, basic design and simple analyses, and assisting on project specific work. Before advancing into a specialty engineering discipline, the new employee must demonstrate proficiency in general Civil Engineering practice.
Annual reviews are conducted with each employee to discuss their career goals and help map out a plan to achieve those goals. We review their goals from the previous year and how much progress was made toward those goals.
Educational Opportunities
Our company will assist, or completely cover, educational expenses directly associated with work-oriented development. For example, we have paid for short courses on the engineering software packages we commonly use.
