ANDERSON-BOGERT Engineers & Surveyors, Inc., has expanded its services into the rapidly growing field of Geographic Information Systems. Geographic Information Systems or GIS is a combination of hardware and software used to view and analyze data from a geographic perspective.
GIS links location, such as the physical location of a pipe
buried in the ground, to information about the pipe, size, type of material that makes up the pipe, depth buried and other pertinent details. This information can then be displayed in multiple forms such as digital or on a hard copy paper map.
The information can also be queried to answer any questions the user has. An example of a query would be to find all the pipes that carry raw water and are 24 inches. The interface would then highlight all the pipes that fit the query. Using GIS enables you to interact with your data and gain answers that include both geographical and non-geographical data.
