Designing Parking Lots with Sustainable Practices

Anderson Bogert recently assisted with surveying and designing a unique parking lot for Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust. The parking lot design uses stormwater best management practices by having permeable pavers that allow water to flow under the surface through feet of gravel into the ground, instead of rushing into the City’s storm sewer system. Due to these improvements, the reconstructed parking lot is designed to handle 100 percent of runoff water.

When reconstructing the parking lot, Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust decided to redesign it with stormwater best management practices in mind. Not only did their leaders feel like it was the right thing to do, they also received financial assistance from the City of Cedar Rapids by implementing these stormwater best management practices. A ribbon cutting for the parking lot was held November 9 onsite along 1st Avenue and 6th Street NE. Below are links to area news coverage about the project and stormwater management projects.
