Hoover Nature Trail Phases

LOCATION: HOOVER NATURE TRAIL IN CEDAR RAPIDS, LINN COUNTY, AND ELY TO THE JOHNSON COUNTY LINE

CLIENTS: LINN COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD, CITY OF CEDAR RAPIDS, AND CITY OF ELY

Project Description: Anderson Bogert worked with the City of Cedar Rapids, Linn County Conservation, and the City of Ely on various phases of the Hoover Nature Trail. One phase consisted of approximately four miles of asphalt trail located between the City of Ely and Highway 30 in Cedar Rapids. The trail extends portions of the existing Cedar River Trail system in Cedar Rapids to the City of Ely. Anderson Bogert provided planning, design, and acquisition plat services for the projects. The design for the 10-foot wide asphalt trail included multiple road crossings, grading, and paving along an abandoned railroad right-of-way; culverts; repairs to a century-old limestone arch culvert; wetland impact mitigation; and welcome signage layout design for the City of Ely.

The most recent phase was a one-mile phase from Ely to the Johnson County line and included a combination of federal and local funding sources. Construction on this phase was complete in the fall of 2017.
