University of Iowa – Lot 48 Expansion

LOCATION: University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa

CLIENT: University of Iowa

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Since the University of Iowa was constructing a new parking ramp in surface Lot 43, north of Kinnick Stadium, the underlying existing parking stalls, which are vital for home football game tailgating and for University staff permit holder parking, needed to be relocated for the 2023 football season and academic school year. Anderson Bogert designed two additions to existing Lot 48, off Myrtle Avenue in Iowa City, which is also a popular area for University staff/student parking and tailgating. The HMA paving additions added 96 parking stalls, to bring the total to 358 stalls, from the previous 262 stalls. The project also added a new concrete pad to accommodate portable restrooms for tailgating, two separate bioretention cells to help mitigate and treat stormwater runoff, a wooden privacy fence along the west property line, and additional lights to meet the University’s lighting standards and help assure the parking lot is safe at night. The project was completed and in use before the new school year and football season began, with construction by LL Pelling Co.
